Bio
Dr. Babu is dedicated to using the best available evidence-based therapies to manage chronic pain conditions. His patient and comprehensive approach allows him to develop treatment plans that emphasize pain relief as well as functional improvement while minimizing adverse effects.
Dr. Babu was raised in State College, Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate education at the Schreyer’s Honors College at Penn State University. During his sophomore year of his undergraduate studies, he was granted early acceptance to the Penn State, Milton S. Hershey College of Medicine. There, he developed an interest in Pain Medicine while researching the effects of common genetic variants in opioid receptors on the body’s perception of pain.
After medical school, Dr. Babu completed an Anesthesiology residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. There, he was named the Robert Dripps Outsanding Graduating Resident in Anesthesiology. He went on to complete an ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. At Cedars-Sinai, he gained expertise in the interventional and non-interventional management of spine, cancer, and head and neck pain under the guidance of Howard Rosner, MD.
Upon completion of his training, he returned to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he served as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. His clinical duties involved teaching physicians anesthesiology, as well as interventional acute and chronic pain techniques. In 2014 he transitioned to a full time Pain Medicine private practice when he joined Synovation Medical Group in San Diego, California. There, he grew a busy practice, treating patients throughout San Diego County.
After moving to Florida in 2016, Dr. Babu envisioned a practice environment that allowed a more personal patient experience. That is, one that allowed him to take the requisite time to understand each patient’s pain condition and formulate an effective treatment plan.
In his free time, Dr. Babu enjoys watching Penn State athletics and spending time with his wife, Veena, and daughter Indra.
He is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is also a member of the Spine Intervention Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
